Vegetarian GLP-1 Recipes

66 meat-free recipes with the protein pushed up where a smaller appetite needs it. The vegan ones are marked, so you can tell at a glance.

Getting the protein in without meat

Meat-free cooking has a reputation for being light on protein, and a lot of it is: a scatter of chickpeas over leaves and you're at maybe 8g. That's fine when you're eating three full meals. It's a problem when you can manage two small ones.

So these lean on the ingredients that actually carry weight. Tofu pressed and crisped in a hot pan, tempeh crumbled and browned like mince, red lentils that cook down into something properly thick, Greek yoghurt and cottage cheese where you'd normally reach for cream. Paneer, feta, eggs. None of it is unusual, it's just chosen for what it brings.

Beans and lentils also come with a good amount of fibre, which is worth knowing about when you're eating less overall. And they're cheap, which never hurts. If you're cooking for a mixed household, most of these scale up without anyone noticing they're the vegetarian option.

Common questions

How do I get enough protein as a vegetarian on GLP-1 medication?
Pick a few ingredients that do the heavy lifting and build round them: tofu, tempeh, red lentils, chickpeas, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, eggs, paneer. A bowl built on 200g of yoghurt or 200g of tofu starts at 20g to 25g of protein before you add anything else. Every recipe here lists the protein per serving so you can see where it lands.
Which vegetarian foods have the most protein?
By weight, the ones worth keeping in: firm tofu and tempeh, cottage cheese and Greek yoghurt, red and green lentils, chickpeas and black beans, edamame, eggs, paneer and feta. Nuts and seeds help at the edges but bring a lot of calories with them, so they work better as a topping than a base.
What is the difference between the vegetarian and vegan recipes here?
The vegan ones use no animal products at all. The vegetarian ones include dairy, eggs or honey. Every card is labelled, and there is a separate vegan collection if that is all you need.
Are these recipes suitable if I am cooking for other people too?
Most of them scale straight up, and several are the kind of thing you would cook for everyone anyway. The burgers, the chilli, the lasagne and the tacos all land as a normal dinner rather than a special plate for one person.
